German set-top box manufacturer to use ANT Galio HbbTV Platform for new range
21 January 2010, Cambridge
ANT, a leading provider of embedded software solutions and services to the digital media industry, today announced that CreNova Technology GmbH, one of the fastest growing set-top box manufacturers, will build its new range of hybrid set-top boxes on the ANT Galio HbbTV Platform. CreNova will implement a HbbTV (Hybrid Broadcast Broadband TV) retail strategy across Europe, enabling consumers to access a range of on-demand services such as catch-up TV, VoD and interactive advertising.
The HbbTV initiative was launched in August 2009 to provide an open platform for hybrid services based on Web technologies. Since the launch, over 30 companies from across the value chain have become supporters. As an initial member of the group, ANT continues to play a key role in the HbbTV initiative, which submitted version 1.1.1 of the specification to ETSI (The European Telecommunications Standards Initiative) in December 2009.
CreNova was established in 2008 with a unique modular system design for its range of set-top boxes, which allow its products to be tailored to meet individual customer requirements. With products deployed worldwide and over 20 years experience in both software and hardware development, CreNova is well positioned to build a compelling HbbTV proposition for a growing market.
Metin Atalan, CEO at CreNova Technology GmbH said: “It is clear that the future of the set-top box relies on delivering services such as Catch-Up TV and VoD in a user friendly manner. HbbTV offers an excellent opportunity to deliver new services in a hybrid environment and we selected ANT as it has played a key role in the HbbTV initiative to-date.”
Richard Baker, EVP of Sales and Marketing at ANT said: “We’re pleased to be working with CreNova who already have a strong understanding of the set-top box market and are well positioned to deliver a range of set-top boxes that can incorporate interactive new applications using the HbbTV specification.”
