ANT Limited Demonstrates Range of Internet Appliances Enabled by Fresco™ Embedded Browser at ESS, London
Featuring technology and products from Alba, ARM, Bitstream, Cirrus Logic, IBM, Pace Micro Technology, Quiero TV, RedHat and Wind River Systems.
London, May 16, 2001
ANT Limited is showcasing an extensive range of Internet appliances and technology demonstrations at ESS (16-17 May 2001) in London's Docklands, emphasising the growing industry endorsement for ANT Fresco, the platform independent embedded web browser. Five working demonstrations of retail products and reference ports featuring the Fresco browser show the versatility of the browser and the ease with which it can be customised to suit the branding and product differentiation requirements of each device and OEM.
ANT's Fresco browser and SimplEmail™ email technology is designed to enable Internet communication capabilities for the new generation of consumer electronic products such as digital set-top boxes, DVD players, PDAs, household appliances, in-vehicle information systems, wireless and other non-PC devices. ANT is playing a major role in driving the explosive growth of the Internet appliance market across the globe, with Fresco fast becoming the browser of choice for a growing number of OEM customers and technology partners.
On-stand demonstrations include:
Quiero TV's set top box: Broadcaster, Quiero, launched its interactive television services in May last year, and has already achieved outstanding penetration in Spain. A key component in the set top boxes supplied to Quiero from its OEM suppliers, ANT Fresco enables subscribers to use the Internet via their television sets, alongside the programming services.
Bush Internet television and Bush set top box: the ANT Fresco browser is an integral component in a web access solution developed by Pace Micro Technology and supplied to Alba PLC for its Bush Internet television and set top box products. This simple to use and intuitive product brings the Internet to a mass-market and sells through retail outlets throughout the UK.
IBM demonstration platform for set top box: featuring ANT Fresco running on the IBM Redwood set top box "system on a chip" demonstration platform, with the VxWorks 5.4 operating system from Wind River Systems.
ARM Prospector P1100 demonstration unit: featuring ANT's browser running on the ARM Prospector 1100 reference device with the VxWorks 5.4 operating system from Wind River Systems.
Cirrus Logic board demonstration device: showing ANT Fresco running on a Cirrus Logic EDB 7211 development board with eCos 1.4.1 operating system from Red Hat. This demonstration illustrates ANT Fresco running in a typical embedded environment particularly suitable for wireless and handheld information devices.
At the show ANT also intends to announce two major new appointments to its senior management team, and will be previewing upcoming announcements, including partnerships with major silicon vendors.
ANT recently announced that it has licensed its Fresco browser to OpenGlobe, an Escient Technologies affiliate, to enable web browsing and digital eCommerce services for the new breed of multimedia home entertainment appliances designed by OpenGlobe, and implemented by major consumer electronic OEMs, such as Compaq. A demonstration of this technology was shown at the recent Embedded Systems Conference West in San Francisco.
