ANT Fresco™ browser enables armchair Internet access via Interisa's digital set-top box
Interisa now shipping 15,000 units a month
Cambridge, 7 August 2001
ANT Limited, a leading developer of Internet appliance software, announced today that the Fresco browser is a key component in telecom manufacturer Interisa's digital set-top box (STB), which is being supplied to Spanish broadcaster Quiero TV. The browser enhances the user's entertainment experience by providing efficient and reliable access to the Internet and digital programming services via the television set. In addition, ANT Fresco's architecture allowed Interisa to integrate the user interface designed by Quiero, also a licensee of Fresco, into the STB to provide a common look and feel to the broadcaster's service.
"Our software allowed Interisa to choose the best technology for its STB, whilst enabling Quiero TV to retain control of the look and feel of its service," said John Cherry, Senior VP of Sales and Marketing at ANT. "Interisa's choice of Fresco is a significant endorsement of its versatility and proof that it remains the browser of choice for digital STBs. I am confidentthat our technology will continue to play a major role in the growth and success of iTVacross Europe."
The ease with which Interisa integrated ANT Fresco into its choice of hardware platform allowed it to bring a fully-featured, robust STB to market within just eight months. "We're committed to driving the European iTV market and ANT's technology has enabled us to develop a complete STB solution in record time," said Guillermo Sanz, VP Sales and Marketing of Interisa Electronica. "We're now shipping 15,000 units a month - this would not have been possible without ANT. Interisa is also developing a new range of products to establish a solid presence in other mature markets such as UK, Sweden, The Netherlands, Germany, USA during the coming months."
ANT Fresco enables consumers to view the most commonly accessed web content because its design is based on ANT's extensive and ongoing research into the features and functions used by today's websites. The browser has been licensed to silicon vendors such as Philips Semiconductors and ST Microelectronics, and convergence technology companies such as Bush Internet TV and OpenGlobe.
ANT Fresco is based on a patent-pending three-layer architecture that allows OEMs to quickly and easily produce a branded interface for their Internet appliances while retaining their own choice of underlying hardware and operating system. This architecture also allows broadcasters and other service providers to update the user interface in the field via, for example, the cable connection of a STB.
