HbbTV (Hybrid Broadcast Broadband TV) enables device manufacturers, service providers
and broadcasters to combine the strengths of DVB services with the richness of web-based
content to provide the consumer with access to a range of additional information and
content either related to, or completely independent from a specific broadcast channel.
The ANT Galio™ HbbTV Platform provides a robust, flexible and dynamic platform on which
both service providers and device manufacturers can develop and deploy HbbTV related
applications for hybrid broadcast TV services to the home.

Open Standards Based Technology

Developed by ANT and other industry leaders to ensure the effective delivery of increasing amounts of digital media available to consumers. HbbTV has been derived from existing standards and web technologies based on elements of OIPF (Open IPTV Forum), CEA, DVB and W3C.

Proven Platform Combining Strength and Flexibility

ANT Galio HbbTV Platform combines the strength of the CE HTML based ANT Galio Browser, with advanced open standards support and display capabilities, together with the flexibility of the ANT Galio Client, a unique, TV-Centric, media device control and management module that provides efficient and powerful support for the control of broadcast related media and web based applications in hybrid TV services.

ANT Galio HbbTV Platform Components

ANT Galio HbbTV Platform uses extended versions of existing ANT Galio Suite components to create an HbbTV ready platform for hybrid TV services. Based on elements of CEA, OIPF and DVB, ANT Galio HbbTV Platform has extended support for CE HTML, HTTP and CSS elements within the Browser, and extends AV control, security framework, application lifecycle management and metadata search functionality from both OIPF and DVB requirements.

ANT Galio HbbTV Platform can be deployed with either ANT Galio HTML/JavaScript Applications, or a device manufacturer’s own TV applications.

When HbbTV Applications are available "Red Button" data is included within the DVB stream. This data enables ANT Galio HbbTV Platform to display a “Red Button” on the screen and allows the user to access the HbbTV application. The Package Manager and HbbTV application lifecycle manager control how the application is executed by the ANT Galio HbbTV Platform.

ANT Galio HbbTV Platform can be integrated with the ANT Managed Service Portal, providing access to a variety of services and media that is complimentary to that available from the broadcasters via HbbTV. Consumers will be able to buy or rent one of the latest titles from the Video On Demand section of the Portal, or download and interact with a selection of games and infotainment from one of the many providers creating applications for the ANT Galio Platform as part of the ANT Academy Developer Community.

HbbTV Services

HbbTV provides the consumer with a seamless integration of both broadcast related and broadcast independent content, together with access to a multitude of web based infotainment applications.

• Consumers have access to enhanced videotext services more suited to HD TV displays than existing services, with interactive video clips and HD text

• 

  Broadcasters can provide Programme Guides for selected channels with richer metadata than existing information

• Radio Channels broadcast via DVB can provide additional information to be displayed during programmes

• Users can access Catch-Up TV content to view popular programmes again

• Video On Demand content is availabe to play or download through online video stores or Portals, such as the ANT Managed Service Portal

• 

  Interactive games and quizzes can be accessed, either as part of a standard broadcast or independantly via the Portal
