ANT Galio Client is the TV middleware engine from TV specialist company ANT that removes the barriers between different media sources in today’s increasingly complex and connected TV world. Naturally complementing the ANT Galio Browser, there is a version of ANT Galio Client to suit virtually every TV requirement, whether traditional, new media or hybrid.

POWERFUL BOUNDARIES

At the system level, integration of different media and metadata sources is performed at the device driver interface, greatly simplifying the integration task, thereby reducing risk, time to market and product development cost. At the TV application level, generic APIs ensure applications are flexible and portable, handling media data in the same way regardless of format or source, thus lowering risk and development costs.

Features Overview

INTRODUCTION

The ANT Galio Client is at the heart of the ANT Galio Platform range, providing the control to enable TV applications to deliver dynamic multimedia experiences across multiple devices in a consistent way. It improves performance and efficiency of essential system functions for a digital TV by moving the majority of data processing from JavaScript into native code. As a result, JavaScript is used to set the policies for specific tasks rather than being used to build the implementation, thereby significantly reducing the amount of code needed.

Open Platform APIs

The ANT Galio Client offers a number of JavaScript API options for operators and manufacturers, offering support for HbbTV, OIPF and RMAI open standards and specifications. These APIs all provide a link between the high level elements of the user interface and the portable, optimised native code of the ANT Galio Client to deliver TV experiences tailored to particular deployment characteristics.

Platform Control & Management

The ANT Galio Client provides control and management capabilities for IPTV, DVB, VOD and PVR functions, enabling TV applications to use standard functions regardless of the source of the data or the type of hardware, allowing the application developer to focus on the TV experience rather than the technology involved, and the user to enjoy the television and services available to them. All applications and services are developed using the familiar web languages of HTML, CSS and JavaScript to implement the user interface and application functionality.

Porting Environment

The Media Device API (MDA) and ANT Portability Environment (APE) provide the interface between the ANT Galio Client and the underlying platform. Together they offer a pluggable driver model allowing features to be added without requiring changes in the ANT Galio Client libraries. This offers a practical and costeffective solution for rapidly porting and optimising the ANT Galio Client across multiple platforms and environments.

Optional modules for IPTV, DVB, Over-The-Top (OTT)

In order to support enhanced requirements, a number of optional modules are available for the ANT Galio Client.

• OTT catch up services, and managed web based content, or applications portals with support for secure billing services
